Success at Kathleen Ferrier Awards

Congratulations to piano graduate Craig White, winner of the 2012 Musicians Benevolent Fund Accompanist’s Prize at the Kathleen Ferrier Awards, as well as to Royal Academy Opera soprano Ruth Jenkins, who won second prize in the Awards.

Their success follows on from 2011, when Marcus Farnsworth won the Song Prize, Timothy End triumphed in the MBF Accompanist’s Prize and Jonathan McGovern won second prize in the Awards.

Academy pianists have now won the Acccompanist’s Prize for eight out of the last 12 years – the other winners are Robin Davis, Joseph Middleton, James Baillieu, John Reid, Simon Lepper and Christopher Glynn.

In other vocal news, Academy graduates Mary Bevan, Julia Sporsén, Catherine Young and George von Bergen have been selected as ENO Harewood Artists for the 2012/13 season, making up a third of the total number.

This programme provides the opportunity for 12 outstanding professional singers at the start of their career to train and perform with the ENO company. Offering stage roles, bespoke training including language coaching and performance psychology, it forms a natural next step for Royal Academy Opera graduates.
